The International Studies Association Southern Region invites proposals for participation in our 2022 annual conference, to be held October 7-8 in St. Augustine, FL hosted by Flagler College. The theme of this year’s meeting is "Rethinking Globalization: A Local Look at Global Issues." In today’s hyper-globalized world, it can be difficult to clearly identify the so-called winners and losers of globalization. The uneven nature of both the benefits and costs of globalization have long been a part of academic discourse and policy making circles. At the global level the United Nations continues to work on its Sustainable Development Goals and small local NGOs address community needs. The relationships between the global and the local are not always clearly understood by the various actors, both impacting and impacted by global forces. For this year’s conference participants are invited to rethink globalization and the lenses through which it has been traditionally studied. What new frameworks or interdisciplinary approaches might provide clearer insights? How can local actors be better equipped to address global issues at the local level? The impacts of climate change, pandemics, financial crises, supply chain disruptions, and conflicts among the world’s major powers are all global in scope, but impact local communities differently, so how can we understand those differences best and address them appropriately from a global scale? These are just some of the questions papers and panels might consider. https://www.isanet.org/Conferences/South-St-Augustine-2022.
The deadline for paper, panel, and roundtable submissions is July 1, 2022.
ISA-South strongly encourages submissions from those in academia, government, non-governmental organizations, the armed forces, and other entities. We also seek to showcase the work of junior and senior scholars and students. To that end, we offer three graduate student paper awards and one undergraduate student paper award. We also offer travel support for up to ten graduate and undergraduate students and for two untenured faculty members. Further details, including how to submit/apply, are available on the conference website.
