The International Studies Association-Midwest is pleased to invite you to submit proposals for papers, panels, roundtables, and workshops on any subjects related to international studies, broadly defined, for its annual meeting. We will meet from November 18-20 at the Hilton at the Ballpark, St. Louis, Missouri, USA. The deadline for paper and panel submissions for the ISA-Midwest conference is Friday, July 22. This year we will also be accepting proposals for workshops to be held on the morning of Sunday, November 20. Please look for a separate call for workshop proposal submissions.
All paper and panel proposal submissions must be made through the ISA submission software. An ISA membership is not required for either proposal submission or conference attendance, though you will need to create an account with isanet.org if you do not already have one. Faculty members attending the conference may be asked to serve as chairs and/or discussants. Please make sure to indicate your areas of expertise when submitting your proposal.
This year’s conference will feature a talk by, and a roundtable in honor of, the 2022 Quincy Wright Distinguished Scholar, Kelly Kadera. Dr. Kadera is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Iowa. We will also host ISA President Deborah Avant, who will give a talk in the evening of Friday, November 18th.
ISA-Midwest is home to many editors or associate editors of the ISA journals, senior and junior faculty, graduate and undergraduate students. In addition to receiving helpful feedback on research panels, the conference allows many opportunities (editors’ roundtable, panels on professional issues and skills) to interact with colleagues across the region and beyond. This year, ISA-Midwest will continue its Emerging Scholars Forum and the Pay It Forward mentorship program. Senior graduate students and junior faculty are encouraged to apply when submitting paper proposals for the program. Similar to ISA's Junior Scholar Symposium, this is an invaluable opportunity to receive in-depth feedback from a senior scholar at a regional conference. The final composition of the panels will reflect the proposals received. The selection process is competitive, and final topics will depend upon the papers selected. For more information, please visit our conference website.
Please note that we are taking whatever steps we can to ensure that your conference experience is a safe one and abides by COVID-19 protocols, whatever they may be. If you have any questions, please contact me at isa-midwest2022@isanet.org. For more information and to submit a proposal, please visit https://www.isanet.org/Conferences/Midwest-St-Louis-2022/Call. I am looking forward to seeing you in St. Louis!
